LEWISVILLE- Martha Ellen Heck, 88, passed away Saturday morning October 17, 2015 at Heritage House in New Castle, Indiana. A daughter of the late Elmer W. and Clara Esther (Lyle) Smith, Martha was born in Henry County near Sulphur Springs, Indiana on July 9, 1927. She graduated from Sulphur Springs High School with the class of 1945 and has made her home in rural Lewisville for the past 64 years. Martha was a member of the Lewisville Presbyterian Church and served as a Sunday School Teacher. Her other memberships and community involvement include- past president of the Lewisville Brotherhood & Sisterhood, Franklin Township Trustee for 8 years and member of its advisory board, Henry County Republican Club, Girl Scout Leader and the R.S.T. Club (Rest, Sew, Talk). In her leisure, Martha enjoyed cooking and was well known for her delicious pies, especially apple and butterscotch. Martha was a devoted, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she had worked as secretary for Justice of the Peace, Claude Chappelle in Spiceland Township and retired from Draper Inc. after 15 years of service. Survivors include her 2 children, Cheryl "Cheri" ( Samuel) Goodin of Greenfield and Jerry Smith (Sandra) Heck of Muncie; 1 granddaughter, Brooke (Tim) Stover of Muncie; 1 great grandson Liam Stover; 1 sister, Clara B. (Phil) France of Mesa, AZ; nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William E. "Bill" Heck on March 23, 2005. They were married by Rev. Byrne at the home of the bride near Sulphur Springs on August 20, 1945; 2 sisters, Mabel Neal-Lykins and Nellie Gillock-Wright. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday October 21, 2015 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel. The Reverends Peter Zinn and Arthur Whitaker will officiate. Burial will follow at the Lewisville Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday October 20th and also 1 hour prior to the funeral services.
