CAMBRIDGE CITY- Marie A. Smith, 77, passed away on Monday afternoon January 4, 2016 at the home of her daughter in rural Connersville. A daughter of the late Walter and Mary Ann Skates, Marie was born in Pennville, Wayne County, Indiana on October 25, 1938. Marie had lived most of her life in the Cambridge City community and has lived down by the lake with her daughter for the past six years. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1956 and also from telecommunications technical college where she learned how to install and service telephone lines. Marie had worked for area restaurants, GTE as an operator and service technician and retired from Delta Entertainment in Richmond after several years of service. In her leisure, Marie enjoyed being with family, spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing and horseback riding. Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Robert L. "Bob" Smith whom she married on October 16, 1970. 4 daughters, Mary Ann (Junior) Payne of Milton, Lisa (Brad) Lewellen of Cambridge City, Rhonda (Tom) Ritter of Liberty and Tonya (Terry) Pollard of Connersville; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 brother, David Skates of Gatlinburg, TN; 1 sister, Ann Binion of Valparaiso; nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by 1 brother, John Skates and 1 sister, Janet Walker. Graveside services will be held at the Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City at 1 p.m. on Saturday January 9, 2016. Pastor David Soper of the Liberty Church of Christ will officiate.
