Margaret Jane Barnes, 86, passed away Monday morning July 1, 2025 at Glen Oakes Health Campus in New Castle, Indiana. A daughter of the late Ernest and Clora (Owens) Neal, Margaret was born in Albany, Kentucky on September 21, 1938. Margaret was raised in Straughn and following her marriage to Howard "Bud" Barnes, they lived in the Cambridge City community for thirty years prior to moving to their home in rural Henry County thirty-five years ago. Margaret and Bud were married in Richmond, Indiana on March 27, 1960. A devoted wife and mother, she stayed home and raised their six children and enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking and crocheting. When the kids were older, she worked in the meat department at Anthony's Grocery in Dublin and the Soda Shop in Cambridge City. A gifted musician, in her leisure, Margaret loved to play the organ and piano. She was a member of the Locust Grove Church.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-five years, Bud Barnes; 6 children, Brenda (Terry) Craig, Keith (Kathy) Porter, Ronnie Barnes, Jon (Tina) Barnes, Lora Ervin and Laura Smith; 9 grandchildren, Chris Craig, Jessica Sanders, Cory Porter, Melissa Houser, Rachel Smith-Moultrie, Taylor Darrah, Eric Ervin, Matt Ervin and Harley Smith; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild on the way. Margaret was preceded in death by 2 son in-laws, Daryl Smith and Ed Ervin; daughter in-law, Pam Barnes; grandson, Samuell David Barnes; 2 siblings, Willard Neal and Edna Williams.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 1 p.m. Monday July 7, 2025 at Locust Grove Church, north of Dublin at- 9530 E. 400 S. / New Castle, IN 47362. Rev. Tim Webb will officiate. Burial will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery.
