Obituary

Straughn- Elizabeth Mae "Betty" Butler, 92, passed away Thursday July 16, 2009 at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle, Indiana. A daughter of the late Lloyd and Lena Bradway Benjamin, Betty was born in Straughn, Indiana on May 16, 1917. A lifelong resident of the Straughn community, she graduated from high school there with the class of 1934. Betty attended the Salem United Methodist Church and was a member of their prayer group. She enjoyed flower gardening, quilting, sewing and making teddy bears for cops. Betty was member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and worked as a Bank Teller / Branch Manager for First National Bank in New Castle. Survivors include 2 daughters- Carla (Doug) Eckart of Columbus, Judy (Ronald J. ) Smith of Millville; 4 grandchildren- Julie (Mike) Spencer of New Castle, Rhonda (Kurt) Hoffman of Boca Raton, FL, Jeffrey Eckart of Arizona and Jason Eckart of Colorado; 5 great grandchildren- Jacob M. and Jason Spencer, Melanie, John and David Hoffman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years at the time of his death on August 27, 2007, Horace M. Butler. They were married on November 12, 1939 in Lewisville, Indiana. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. till the time of services at 1 p.m. on Monday July 20, 2009 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville. Rev. Adrian Curtis will officiate. Burial will follow at the Lewisville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions can be made to the Salem United Methodis Church- 4367 E 700 S. Straughn, IN 47387
