Obituary

CAMBRIDGE CITY- Louise Ann Haler, 83, passed away peacefully at her home in Cambridge City Thursday evening January 28, 2016. A daughter of the late Chelsie and Mary (Landis) Shell, Louise was born in Richmond, Indiana on May 25, 1932. Louise graduated from Richmond High School and Nursing School. She and her family had lived in Harrisburg before returning to Cambridge City in 1974. Louise worked as a nurse in Connersville nursing homes and was proud to be a caregiver. She was a wonderful mother who sacrificed whatever was needed for her family. Louise was a member of the Do-Gooders Club and the First Missionary Baptist Church in Dublin. She was an active member who was passionate about their children's programs and willingly took on the responsibility of Sunday School teacher and director of their Vacation Bible School. In her leisure, Louise enjoyed gardening, watching birds, squirrels and people. She liked to relax by reading, playing cards and board games with her family and friends. Survivors include 7 children, Simeon Haler III of Greens Fork, Anthony Haler of Dublin, Nancy Butler, Marcia Upthegrove, Jeffrey Haler and Ruth Haler all of Cambridge City and Teresa Skirvin of Richmond; 68 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; 1 brother, William Schell of South Carolina; nieces and nephews. Louise was preceded in death by her husband Sim Haler Jr. on May 9, 2013. They were married in Richmond on August 4, 1951. 2 grandson, Simeon Haler IV and Arnold Parkhurst; 2 brothers, Chelsie Shell Jr. and Donnie Shell; 2 sisters, Marilyn Ervin and Carolyn Lehman. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 1 p.m. on Monday February 1, 2016 at the First Missionary Baptist Church- 400 Maple Street/ Dublin, IN 47335. Rev. James Noggle will officiate. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City.
