Cambridge City- Louis S. Cheek, 70, former minister of Milan, Illinois, passed away on Monday morning February 8, 2010 at St. Vincent Hospital of Winchester, Indiana. A son of the late Lester Eugene and Rachel Elizabeth (Elam) Cheek, Louis was born in Liberty, Indiana on May 8, 1939. Formerly of the Cambridge City, Indiana area, he grew up on a farm and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1957. He had worked for Miller Dairy of Cambridge City and DANA Corporation in Hagerstown before becoming a minister. He graduated from the Johnson Bible College at Knoxville, Tennessee in 1973. Louis served the Lord at churches in Tennessee and Michigan before being a founding member and minister for over 22 years in Milan, Illinois at the Milan Christian Church. For 23 years he loved working with the youth at church camp. In his spare time he relaxed by fishing, bee keeping, woodworking and watching his children and grandchildren participate in sporting events. After his retirement from the ministry he moved to the rural Lynn, Indiana area in December of 2009. Survivors include his wife, the former Janet E. Bryant, whom he wed on October 19, 1958 at the Cambridge City Chriatian Church. 3 daughters, Tomah Jean (Harrry C.) Williams of Brighton, IL, Kimberlee Jonel (Brian) Lewis of Ft. Wayne, Amy Lynn (Ed) Phenis of Lynn; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Russell Cheek of Centerville, Wilbur Cheek of Toledo, OH; 3 sisters, Wilma Waltz, Alma Kanago and Mary Alice Stewart all of Cambridge City; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Teresa Jane; 2 infant brothers; brother, Eugene Cheek; step father, John Rauthe. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday February 12, 2010 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, 1993 Cumberland Street / Dublin, IN 47335. Rev. Harry Holloway will officiate. Burial will follow at the South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. on Thursday February 11 at the funeral home.
