New Castle: Kay H. Byers, 74, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday July 7, 2010, surrounded by his loving family after a short battle with cancer. Kay was born on April 29, 1936 in Oolitic, Indiana, the son of the late Glen R. and Eva Marie (Holmes) Byers. Kay graduated from New Castle Chrysler High School in 1954; where he met and later married his wife of 53 years Dorothy Caldwell the daughter of the late Bill and Idabelle Caldwell. Kay worked for the Ford Motor Company of Indianapolis for 43 years and he often stated "he had the last job a person could ever hope to have". Surviving relatives include his wife Dorothy Byers of New Castle, four children; Dana Denecke (special friend, Ken Guffey) of New Castle, Dean Byers (Amanda) of New Castle, Dale Byers (Julie) of New Castle and Dennis Byers (Tami) of Dallas, Texas, eight grandchildren; Tyler VanMatre (Alyssa), Kayti VanMatre (special friend Dustin Fowler), Clint Nick, Alison Abby all from New Castle, Toni and Nikki of Dallas Texas, one great grandchild, Madison Fowler, sisters; Susan Byers and Barbara Stouer (Paul). Brother Phil Byers (Lisa) and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Kay was blessed to have a special friend Jerry Cline, who was as much a brother as his own family you always had a special place in his heart. Preceding in death by, parents, brothers Don Byers and Dean Byers, nephews, Dale Alan Byers and David Stouer. A memorial service will be held on Monday July 12, 2010 at 10:30 am at the First Baptist Church 709 South Memorial Drive New Castle, with Pastor Jerry Ingalls offiacating the service. Memorials can be sent to the National Foundation for Abused and Neglected Children /P.O. Box 1841 Chicago, Il. 60690. Arrangements are being handled by Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home Lewisville, IN.
