KNIGHTSTOWN- Kathryn Sue “Kathy” Rummel, 66, passed away early Friday morning September 18, 2026 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield, Indiana after a brief illness. A daughter of the late Alva J. and Florence LaVerne (Jackson) Brown, Kathy was born in Rushville, Indiana on February 27, 1960. Kathy lived most of her life in Rush County, grew up in the Carthage community and graduated from Knightstown High School in 1978. She worked many years at Indiana Knitwear in Greenfield and was currently employed by Dollar General Stores in Knightstown and most recently at Carthage. Kathy enjoyed gardening, canning, having dinner with her friends and family, shopping and cheering on the Rushville Lions football team.

Survivors include her brother, Michael (Darlene) Alter; sister in-law, Monika Alter; 4 nieces, Christel Darrough, Lindsey Benitez, Jennifer (Ken) Hatten and Jessica Keith; 1 nephew, Christopher Alter; several great nieces and nephews.

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband of 17 years, Jeff Rummel on October 8, 2010; 2 siblings, Ann Campbell and Bob Alter.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 2 p.m. on Wednesday September 23, 2026 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel- 115 West U.S. Hwy. 40/ Lewisville, IN 47352. Burial will follow at Lewisville Cemetery.
