Cambridge City- Judith Arlene "Judy Schwab, 72, of Cambridge City, passed away on Saturday evening May 16, 2009 at the home of her daughter in Lafayette, Indiana after an extended illness. Judy was born in Lewisville, Indiana on May 1, 1937. She was Valedictorian of the Lewisville High School class of 1955. She attended Purdue University and IUPUI. Judy and her late husband Ray where co-owners of Schwab's Berry Fine Farm in Cambridge City from 1991-1999. The farm was a popular u-pick berry farm where they also grew mums for fall planting. She continued the operation of the farm for one year after the death of her husband. Judy lived in Greenwood, Indiana from 1965-1991 where she and her husband founded J & R Tax Service in 1967, which later became known as Ray Schwab, CPA. Their accounting business handled many local clients and also was known for their personal customer service of income tax preparation. Judy was a full charge bookkeeper and the office manager. After 25 years of service they sold their business to Bradley Kristel, CPA. Judy and Ray continued to work closely with their income tax clients during the transition of the business and for years to follow during the off season of the berry farm. Judy worked at Kristel's until her retirement in 2006. In 1952 Judy was the Indiana 4-H State Cherry Pie Champion. She also competed in the national competition at Chicago. Judy has been a member of the Connersville Baptist Temple since 1991 and the Gideon's. Survivors include 4 children- Katrina L. West of Lafayette, Michael K. Schwab of Indianapolis, Marianne Schwab of Van Nuys California and John E. Schwab of Indianapolis; 7 grandchildren- Jessica Richards and Hannah Lord of Lafayette, Sarah Richards of Albuquerque, NM, Heather Richards of Cloverdale, NM, Steven Schwab and James Darby of Windfall, IN, Lydia Frantz of Ft. Myers, FL; 3 great grandchildren- Tyler Lord, Alexis Lord and Taylor Fitzgerald of Lafayette; 2 brothers- Gerald E. Whitton of Anderson, Paul P. Whitton of Clinton Township, MI; 3 sisters- Joan Benson of Charleston SC, Scarlet Minton of Noblesville and Ruthanne Pierce of Lewisville. Judy was preceded in death by her husband Raymond E. Schwab on November 29, 1998 They were married in the Lewisville Presbyterian Church on August 20, 1955. Father, Gerald M. Whitton on April 14, 1984, mother Rebecca L. Locke Whitton on March 31, 2003. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday May 21, 2009 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville. Burial will follow at the Lewisville Cemetery.
