New Lisbon - Josephine M. (Cushman) Claar, 92, passed away on Saturday evening February 20, 2010 at her home in New Lisbon, Indiana. A daughter of the late Arthur G. and Mary (Blake) Cushman, Josephine was born in Woodstock, Ohio on January 23, 1918. She graduated from Woodstock High School with the class of 1935 and attended Business College in Columbus, Ohio. She moved to New Lisbon in 1955 and was a member of the New Lisbon Christian Church, the Antique Rug Hookers and the New Castle Home Economics Club. She enjoyed being with her family, refinishing furniture and chair caining. Josephine had worked for the New Lisbon Telephone Company from 1955 until her retirement in 1988. Survivors include her 5 children, Marjorie L. (husband Shirley G.) Poore of New Castle, Beverly A. (husband Gary D.) Paul of New Lisbon, James M. (wife Sue) Claar of New Lisbon, Daniel K. (wife Melissa) Claar fo Kentucky and William A. (wife Cindy) of New Lisbon; 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Bertha Karrer of Dublin, Ohio and Verna Bergindine of Sunbury, Ohio; 1 brother, Arthur (wife Marie) Cushman of Evening Shade, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews. Josephine was preceded in death by her husband Roy E. Claar on June 14, 1981. They were married in Champaigne County, Ohio on April 30, 1940; 1 grandson, Darby Claar; 1 great granddaughter, Elizabeth Linder; 2 sisters and 4 brothers. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday February 25, 2010 at the New Lisbon Christian Church in New Lisbon, Indiana. Pastor Mark Lomison will officiate. Burial will follow at the New Lisbon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday February 24 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin and 1 hour prior to the services on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions can be made to the Henry County Heart Society, 1000 N. 16th Street / New Castle, IN 47362 or the Cancer Society of Henry County, 1022 Riley Road / New Castle, IN 47362.
