CONNERSVILLE- John W. Gibbs, 79, passed away Tuesday morning January 17, 2017 at Hickory Creek of Connersville. John had lived in New Paris, Ohio prior to moving to Connersville 4 years ago. A son of the late Dewey and Irene (Stewart) Gibbs, John was born in Dublin, Indiana on June 28, 1937. He was raised in the Dublin and Milton communities and attended school there. John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. on January 31, 1956 and was honorably discharged on October 13, 1959. Upon exiting the military, John worked various jobs which included installing insulation in Florida and California, Gentry's Roofing in Dublin for twelve years, night deposit box courier and delivering shuttle buses across the country. In his leisure, John enjoyed being a member of the American Legion in New Paris, Ohio, boating and taking automobile rides. Survivors include 6 children, John William Gibbs Jr. of California, Ronald Eugene Gibbs of Grand Junction, Colorado, Richard Allen Gibbs of Connersville, Jo Sharmayne Gibbs of California, Melissa Ann Marin of Hemet, California and David Lee Gibbs of Pahrump, Nevada; several grand and great grandchildren; 4 siblings, Dewey Gibbs Jr. of Centerville, Gail E. Gibbs of Connersville, Alice Price of California and Jim Gibbs of Connersville; and several nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Megan Marie Gibbs; 3 siblings, Donald Gibbs, Mary Lou Childs and David Lee Gibbs. Visitation will be from noon until the time of services at 2 p.m. on Friday January 20, 2017 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Pastor Steve Earlywine will officiate. Burial will follow at the Zion's Lutheran Cemetery in Pershing.
