CAMBRIDGE CITY- James F. Siggers, 68, passed away Sunday afternoon June 18, 2017 at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. A son of the late Willie Louis and Willie Harlen (Batchelor) Siggers, James was born in Crenshaw County, Alabama on January 2, 1949. He moved to Indiana when he was eight years old and resided in Henry and Wayne Counties before moving to his current home in Cambridge City 43 years ago.. Jim served his country in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam War and was honorably discharged on March 25, 1971. Following his active duty service, Jim served in the Army National Guard, Richmond Armory. He was an active forty-nine year member of the Lawrence H. Bertsch American Legion Post 169. His service to the Post included- a four time Commander and many years as Second Vice Commander. Jim also coached the Legion softball team to four State Championships. A carpenter and craftsman by trade, Jim was owner/operator of Siggers' Home Improvement. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed NASCAR racing.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, the former, Janie E. Stewart. They were married in Richmond, Indiana on October 21, 1977. 5 children, Robbie (Robin) Blair of Straughn, Amy Claborn and Vanessa Siggers both of Cambridge City, Regina Sullivan of Connersville and Malissa Bisi of Las Vegas, NV; 8 grandchildren, Daisy, Ashley, Ryan, Samantha, Chelsea, Sabrina, Dylan and Devan; 13 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, David (Angie) Siggers of Mt. Auburn, Henry (Christy) Siggers of Indianapolis and Raymond (Lisa) Siggers of Straughn; 3 sisters, Hazel (Joe) Lykens of New Castle, Naomi Lanter and Tilda Pegg both of Hagerstown; several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by 2 infant siblings, Louis Jefferson and Vanessa Rose Siggers.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday June 23, 2017 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Rev. Raymond Siggers will officiate. Burial, with military honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard and Post 169, will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday June 22nd.
