LEWISVILLE-  Jewel L. Pate-Thurman, 86,  passed away Wednesday afternoon November 10, 2021 at Addison Place in New Castle, Indiana.  A daughter of the late Jesse Edward and Ina Easter (Frogg) Winchester, Jewel was born in New Castle, Indiana on March 19, 1935.  She was a lifelong resident of Lewisville and graduated from high school there in 1953.  Jewel married Hugh L. Pate on May 15, 1953 and they shared forty wonderful years together before his passing on November 22, 1993.  She was a homemaker and also worked in the catalog department at Sears in New Castle for many years before going to work in the cafeteria at Tri High School.  Jewel was a member of the Lewisville Methodist Church and had been a member of the Eastern Star for over sixty years.  In her leisure, she enjoyed working in her yard, planting flowers and gardening.

Survivors include 3 children, Debra (Dwight) Barnes, Diana (John) Engle and David (Tina) Pate; 6 grandchildren, Kevin (Arah) Barnes, Andrea (Jason) Stephenson, Laura McDonald, Jami (Charles) Higar, Megan (Lou) Reed and Tristan (Robert) Cook; 7 great grandchildren.

Jewel was also preceded in death by her 2nd husband, Richard A. Thurman on August 1, 2012; grandson in-law, Casey McDonald; 5 brothers, John, James, Jesse, Julias and Jeral Winchester.

Private funeral services, conducted by Rev. Mark Lomison, will be held at the convenience of the family.  Burial will follow at Lewisville Cemetery.  Memorial Contributions can be made to New Lisbon Christian Church Building Fund- P.O. Box 68/ New Lisbon, IN 47366.
