IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janice Delee
Thompson
July 24, 1938 – March 10, 2025
CAMBRIDGE CITY- Janice D. Thompson, 86, peacefully entered her eternal home surrounded by the love of her family on March 10, 2025. Born in Winchester, IN on July 24, 1938, Janice was the only daughter of Fred
Marmon Heaston and Zella Myrtle (Mock) Heaston. Janice was a 1956 graduate of Winchester High
School. After graduation she attended school in Michigan for air traffic operations and
communications. She moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for Capital Airlines in that field.
During that time, she traveled throughout the states until she returned to Winchester, IN and married
John Edward Thompson on November 30, 1958.
Janice was a very loving, kind, giving, smart, supportive, independent, and hard-working woman. She
leaves behind a legacy of her admirable traits instilled in her children and extended family. She was
an avid sports fan and enjoyed college football and basketball (IU and Michigan), the Colts and
Pacers, sprint cars, and NASCAR.
Janice (and John) owned and operated the Crystal Bar and Grill, Richmond, IN, where she managed
all aspects of the business. She was employed as a cook at Lincoln High School cafeteria in the late
1970's-1983. For several years, she managed the salad bar at MCL Cafeteria and was the food
service manager for Fowler Food Services at DANA Corporate offices in Richmond until she retired in
2003.
In addition to her love and pride for family, one of her greatest loves and accomplishments was
sewing for Legacy Products for over 25 years, until a few years ago when she discontinued due to
health reasons. Janice took immense pride in sewing and making medical companion dolls sent all
over the world used to educate parents and children what to expect after a diagnosis of a serious
illness or disease.
Janice is survived by her 4 children. Chris S. Thompson of Austin, TX, Anthony "Tony" Thompson
(Beth) of Hagerstown, IN, Dr. Shawn L. Thompson, DDS, of Sommerville, SC, and only daughter
Angela K. Shute (Tad) of Cambridge City, IN, sister-in-law, Doris Jean Wynn of Winchester, IN, 14
grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends.
In addition to her devoted parents and beloved in-laws, Janice was preceded in death by her husband
of nearly 25 years, John "Johnny" E. Thompson, special companion of 18 years, Lloyd Wickes,
daughter-in-law Vicki (Gammon) Thompson, infant great-grandsons Austin John Thompson and
William Anthony Wright.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff and doctors of the ICU and PCU at Reid Hospital,
Reid Hospice staff: Paige, Brittany, Kristin, Katie, and Megan for their outstanding gentle care, and
Kim Miller, NP, for her constant devoted care to our mom.
In lieu of flowers the family would like to suggest a donation to the National Kidney Foundation or
your favorite local charity.
Family and friends may visit on Friday, March 14, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 15, 12:00-
1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service and celebration of life at 1:00 p.m. at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin.
There will be no graveside service, but a procession will take a final drive to lead her family back to their
home of 55 years.
