CAMBRIDGE CITY - Janice Louise Miles, 85, of Cambridge City passed away Thursday evening, July 10, 2014 at her residence. She was born on March 16, 1929 in New Castle to Allen and Phoebe Rees. Janice is a 1947 graduate of New Castle High School and worked for Bell Telephone as an operator for several years. Janice married the late Phil Miles in 1948 in New Castle. In 1954 they moved to Centerville to publish the Old Trails Echo Newspaper until 1964. They retired to Florida in 1982 and Janice moved to Cambridge City after Phil's death in 1989. Janice was a member of the Cornerstone Church in New Castle. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include her children, Phillip E. (Nina) Miles of New Castle, Sue (Gary) Verpooten of Cambridge City, Nancy (Arthur) McDermott of Madison, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Nathan Miles, Shiela Hayden, Dawn Tyree, Eric Verpooten, Dustin Verpooten, Kyle McDermott, Kirk McDermott; nine great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; special friend, Charles Burgess of Cambridge City. Janice was preceded in death by her parents and husband. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
