NEW CASTLE- Irene Emma Davis, 89, passed away on Friday evening September 18, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis, Indiana after a short illness. A daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Pelzel) Meyer, Irene was born in Cambridge City, Indiana on August 13, 1926. She graduated from high school in Cambridge City and has made her home in New Castle for the past 62 years. Irene had worked at Perfect Circle during World War II, cleaned several business offices and retired from the New Castle State Hospital where she worked in the Dietary Department. She was a member of the St. Anne Catholic Church. In her leisure, she enjoyed bird watching, crocheting (a blanket given by her was a special gift) playing the organ and singing. Irene loved to listen to her sons play music during family get togethers. Survivors include her 2 loving sons, Kenneth Eugene Davis of Cicero, and John R. (Teresa) Davis of Richmond; 6 grandchildren, David Butche, Anna T. Davis, Deseree Cox, Jeff Brinson, Kenny and Michael Davis; 8 great grandchildren; 2 siblings, Marlene Brown of Milton and Charles Meyer of Cambridge City; nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her daughter in-law, Vada Davis; 3 brothers, Joseph, Arthur and Robert Meyer; 2 sisters, Mary Gethers and Kathryn Pass. A Rosary Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. followed by visitation from 5 p.m. until the start of the Mass of Christian Burial at 7 p.m. on Wednesday September 23, 2015 at the St. Anne Catholic Church in New Castle. Fr. Joseph Rautenberg will officiate. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at St. Anne Catholic Cemetery.
