Obituary

Icel B. Burchett, 89, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Reid Health in Richmond, Indiana.

He was born in Jackson County, Kentucky on August 6, 1936, the son of the late Perry Earl Burchett and Dora Ettie (Honeycutt) Burchett. On December 31, 1955, he married Shelby (Pelfrey) Burchett in New Castle, Indiana. After their marriage, Icel and Shelby made their home in Dublin since 1967, where they built a life together and became part of the community. Shelby preceded him in death in 2020.

Icel was a 50-year member of Cambridge City Lodge No. 5 F. & A.M. He worked as a machinist and was known as a master tinkerer. He enjoyed coon hunting, gardening, and being part of his community.

Icel is survived by his daughter, Sheryl Mason; grandchildren, Skyler Burchett and Laci (Grant) Moulton; great-grandchildren, Dane Burchett and Heidi Moulton; sister, Patsy Mikesell; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shelby; his son, Robert Earl Burchett, who passed away on April 21, 2018; his parents; and several siblings.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Dublin. Masonic services will preceed the visitation at 3:30. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday June 29, 2026 at 10:00 a.m., Leonard Payne will officiate. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin.
