CAMBRIDGE CITY- Hilda M. Hall, 90 of rural Cambridge City, passed away at her home on Friday evening, January 10, 2025 following a brief illness. A daughter of the late Charles and Beatrice (Guant) Swoveland, Hilda was born south of Hagerstown, Indiana in Wayne County on October 17, 1934. She was a graduate of Hagerstown High School with the class of 1953. She worked for 10 years in home health care, taking care of numerous Western Wayne County residents. She also worked for 10 years as a "lunch lady" for Western Wayne Schools at Lincoln High School. Hilda, and her late husband Ray, liked helping others and when their grandchildren were younger, they volunteered for many years at CCYL baseball concessions and the Dublin Skate. In the spring and summer you could find her working in her flower beds and gardens. Her most cherished job was being a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Hilda was a lifelong member of the New Lisbon Christian Church.
Survivors include her children, Debbie Cates of Richmond, Donald Hall of Cambridge City and Douglas (Lisa) Hall of Cambridge City; grandchildren, Duretta (Tim) McKee, Lee Ann (Tony) Bowman, Daniel Hall (Tracy Beach), Kyle (Sarah) Hall, Joella Hall and Courtney Hall; great grandchildren, Nicholas (Grace) Callahan, Hunter Callahan (Taylee Myers), Whitney (Chuckie) Jewett, Kennedy McKee, Ali Bowman, Cash Bowman, Caleb Hall, Madilyn Murray, Nicholas Fleenor, Jason Hall and Raylynn Hall; great-great grandchildren, Ruella Jewett, Esme Jewett and Rowan Callahan; 1 brother, Frank Swoveland and 1 sister, Mary Lou Hughes; several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Hall, on June 1, 2009; 3 brothers, Gene, Fred and Guy Swoveland and 1 sister, Betty Berry.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Pastor Mark Lomison will officiate. Burial will follow at the Brick Cemetery, Hagerstown. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15th at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorial Donations be made to the New Lisbon Christian Church, P.O. Box 68, New Lisbon, IN 47366.
