Dublin- Henry C. "Speed" Proffitt, 78, of Dublin, Indiana, passed away on February 1, 2009 at Reid Hospital in Richmond, IN. The son of W.H. and Martha E. (Hardigree) Proffitt, he was born December 28, 1930 in Crab Orchard in Lincoln County Kentucky. On December 30, 1949 in Liberty, IN he married Ruth Anna Bunger whom precedes him in death. Speed moved to Dublin in 1949 and lived and served his community for over 60 years. He owned and operated Speed's Plumbing, Heating and Air, and was a licensed Electrician. He retired from NATCO in Richmond. Speed was an Honorary Member of the Lawrence H. Bertsch American Legion Post 169, where he called bingo for the past 35 years. He was a member of the Faith United Baptist Church in Hagerstown. Survivors include four daughters; Vicki A. Sperber of Dublin, Brenda D. Carroll of Holly Springs, Mississippi, Rhonda L. Proffitt of Dublin and Rischa L. Pruiett of Marshall, Illinois; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren, two brothers; Coleman Proffitt of Dublin and Ray Proffitt of Louisville, two sisters; Frances Francis of Phoenix, AZ and Miranda Oaks, of Apex, North Carolina, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents, wife, Ruth Anna Bunger March 28, 1992, a great grand daughter, Kam Sullivan, five brothers; Allen, Thomas, George, Abijah and Edward Proffitt. Services will be Friday February 6, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home Dublin. Rev Eldon Denney will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday February 4, 2009 and Thursday February 5, 2009 at the funeral home.
