STRAUGHN- Helen J. Purvis, 84, passed away on Friday morning December 9, 2011 at the Waters of New Castle. A daughter of the late Isaac and Dorothy (Castle) Sons, Helen was born in South Bend, Indiana on June 28, 1927. A homemaker, Helen had lived in the Straughn community before moving to New Castle in 1964. She enjoyed playing BINGO, gardening, rummage sales, shopping and caring for others. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church and the Apostolic Pentecostal Churches in New Castle. Survivors include her daughter, Marsha Bennett of Straughn; 2 granddaughters, Andrea Bennett of Straughn and Tammy Penn of New Castle; 4 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Eldon "Sonny" Sons of Straughn; nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her 1st husband Vivion F. Conner on August 2, 1984; 2nd husband, Edgar Purvis on May 27, 2009 ; grandson, David Penn on November 11, 1977; son in-law, Wayne E. Bennett on May 22, 2007 ; 2 brothers, Jerry and Gene Sons; 1 sister, Virginia Brown. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday December 12, 2011 at the New Lisbon Cemetery in New Lisbon, Indiana. The Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
