CAMBRIDGE CITY- Haskell E. Blackburn, 89, passed away on Tuesday June 2, 2015 at the Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle, Indiana. A son of the late Samuel O. and Eulis (York) Blackburn, Haskell was born in Clinton County, Kentucky on April 5, 1926. Haskell was raised on a farm in Straughn, Indiana and graduated from high school there. He served his country with honor in the United States Army during World War II. Haskell enjoyed farming and was also owner/operator of Blue Sunoco Service Station on the corner of 16th and Broad Streets in New Castle for several years. He also worked as a manager for area Shell Service Stations. In his leisure, Haskell enjoyed horse racing and all sports. He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons Lodge #72 in Lewisville. Survivors include his wife of nearly 65 years, the former Joan M. Fagan. They were married at the Jacksonburg Christian Church on December 17, 1950. Nieces and nephews; sister in-law, Rosemary Blackburn of Cambridge City; good friends, John and Mary L. Adamson. Haskel was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Glen, Paul, Delmar and Earl Blackburn; sisters, Pauline Wools, Judy Donofrio. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015 at Jacksonburg Cemetery. Stan Eastman will officiate. Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
