BENTONVILLE- Harold E. Spurgin, 85, passed away Sunday evening October 14, 2012 at Rosebud Village in Richmond, Indiana. A son of the late Ray and Myrtle (Thorne) Spurgin, Harold was born in Jefferson County near Madison, Indiana on May 17, 1927. Harold graduated from the Bentonville High School with the class of 1945 and served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Harold lived and farmed near Bentonville for over 60 years and has lived in Richmond since 2006. He retired from the shipping department at MEG in Cambridge City after 27 years of service. Harold enjoyed spending time with his family, he was and avid airplane pilot and received his pilots license in 1973 he also enjoyed motorcycle riding and as a former deacon at the Calvary Baptist Church in Connersville he was very active in their nursing home visitation program. Currently he was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Richmond. Survivors include his wife 65 years, the former Alberta Eichacker, whom he married on June 28, 1947 in Connersville; 3 children, Vicki Ross of Richmond, Brian (Sandy) Spurgin of Milton and Kevin (Mary) Spurgin of Shelbyville; 5 grandchildren, Jason and Amber Spurgin, Shanon Jackson, Mark Spurgin and Curtis Collins; 7 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Floyd (Janice) Spurgin of Sraughn and Virgil Spurgin of Greensburg; nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his 3 year old daughter, Karen Sue on October 16, 1952 and a sister Dorothy Harmon. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday October 18, 2012 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Pastor John Maples will officiate. Burial will folllow at the Bentonville Cemetery in Bentonville. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday October 17 at the funeral home.
