Cambridge City – Harley Dallas Butler, 82, of Cambridge City passed away at Reid Health in Richmond, Indiana the afternoon of October 6th, 2026. Son of the late Harley Paul and Violet Lee (Lockard) Butler, Harley was born on March 31st, 1944, in Lafayette, Indiana. He graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School with the class of 1962. Harley then served as a communications technician in the United States Army from 1968 until 1970. After being honorably discharged he attended the Cleveland Institute of Electronics and graduated in 1973. He worked at GTE/Verizon as a communications technician. A proud patriot, Harley was a member of the Lawrence H. Bertch American Legion Post #169 and served as the 10th District Commander for the American Legion from 2002-2003. He was a member of the Cambridge City Masonic Lodge #5 F&AM. Harley enjoyed Christmas time and was a collector of knives and other items.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, the former Judy (Sands) Thomas. They were married at the Cambridge City United Methodist Church on September 27th, 1986; 2 sons, Michael Paul (Gabby) Butler, Harley James Butler; 3 stepchildren, Troy and Tracey Thomas and Tonya Emenhiser; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Laura Fisher and Linda Baker.
Harley is preceded in death by his grandson, Logan Butler; brother, Edward Butler; the mother of his sons, the former Cheryl Jean Frances; his second wife, Mildred (Sparks) Butler.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the start of funeral services at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 12th, 2026, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Larry McDaniel will officiate. Military Honors will be conducted by contingents of the United States Army Honor Guard assisted by the American Legion Post #169. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City, Indiana.
