Obituary

Gertrude C. Witters passed away on January 18, 2014 in Eaton, Ohio. Born September 25, 1919, she spent her early childhood in the town of Daun in the Eifel region of Germany before immigrating to the United States with her mother in 1929. She recalled with fondness roller skating along the sidewalks of Richmond, Indiana, spending hours roaming the rolling hills of Glen Miller Park and swimming at Thistlewaite Falls where she met her lifelong friend Mildred Gibson. Married in 1935, Gertrude bore seven children - Frederick J. Witters, W. Alexandria, Ohio; Robert M. Witters, Randallstown, MD; Marjorie E. Pence, deceased; Janet L. Hicks, New Castle, IN; Mildred I. Knipfer, Eaton, Ohio; Judith A. Bowen, W. Alexandria, Ohio; and James L. Witters, Pickerington, Ohio. The only child of Dorothy Cohee, Gertrude had 27 grandchildren and leaves 107 living descendants. She began studying the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses in 1947 and was baptized in June of 1953. She has been associated with congregations in Richmond, IN, Eaton, Ohio and Dayton, Ohio. Always pleasant and amiable, Gertrude won many hearts with her affable sense of humor, never judging and always helping. She was known for helping her older members of the congregation, transporting them to medical appointments, taking them to eat, and assisting them in their homes, even in her later years. Gertrude was a hard-working woman who held factory, restaurant, hospital and senior services jobs, all while caring for her seven children. Family always came first. An avid cook and baker, she kept a warm and cheerful home and maintained her dedication to Jehovah. Gertrude declared in her last days on Earth that she had made peace with Jehovah and firmly believed that, in God's time, she would be rewarded with a resurrection to a cleansed and righteous world. Funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Richmond. Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin, Indiana has been entrusted with the arrangements.
