IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George Edward
Parkhurst
September 19, 1935 – February 25, 2015
George Edward Parkhurst, 79, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in Coleville, California. He was born on September 19, 1935 to Otto and Sarah Parkhurst in New Lisbon, Indiana. He was one of eleven children. George joined the United States Navy in 1949 and served six years during the Korean War. While in the Navy, he served on the U.S.S. Henry W. Tucker. After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to Indiana to meet the love of his life, Shirley Ann Parkhurst. They were married November 16, 1958 in Cambridge City, Indiana. George was the father of four sons, Thomas Dale, Stacy Bill, Duane Edward, and Anthony Wayne. George raised his family in Hagerstown, Indiana while working at the Ingersoll Rand Steel Mill until his retirement in 1974. George also farmed all of his life and enjoyed coon hunting in the wintertime and fishing in the summer. George and Shirley later moved to Harlingen, Texas due to George's health where they stayed for twelve years. During those years, George spent most of his time on the water doing what he loved - fishing. In 1991, George and Shirley moved to Gardnerville, Nevada to be closer to family. They lived there for ten years before returning to San Antonio, Texas where they stayed for seven more years. When George and Shirley where told that their Son, Anthony, would be retiring from the United States Marine Corps in 2006 they moved to Walker, California to live and be closer to family. In George's final years, he was a life member of the V.F.W., Cooties, D.A.V., and the American Legion. George was also a proud supporter of all active duty, retired, and former military members. George loved all things about the military and what it stands for. George was also active in his grandchildren's sports and events. He never failed to be at sports events to cheer them on. George was a very kindhearted man and would do anything for anyone. He had a personality that all loved and enjoyed. He enjoyed being in the outdoors: from gardening, cutting wood, hunting and fishing, or just sitting in his porch swing watching the wildlife, you could always find him outside. George always appreciated the little things in life and raised his sons and grandchildren to appreciate them as well. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Shirley Ann; sons Thomas Dale, Duane Edward and wife, Anthony Wayne and wife; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. George was preceded in death by one son, Stacy Bill Parkhurst. George will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and people that knew him. A memorial service with military honors provided by the William O. Frazier American Legion Post 333 will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Riverside Cemetery, Cambridge City, Indiana. Speaker John Lawson will officiate. Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
