Obituary

Cambridge City- Edward T. "Red Junior" Longnecker, 75, passed away on Monday evening August 3, 2009 at the Henry County Hospital in New Castle. Edward was born in Cambridge City, Indiana on April 25, 1934. He has lived most of his life in the Cambridge City, Western Wayne community and graduated from Lincoln High Shool with the class of 1952. Red served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was stationed in Alaska and received the Airman of the Year Award. Red was a Life Member of the Indiana Volunteer Fire Department Association, an over 40 year member and former Fire Chief for the Cambridge City Volunteer Fire Department and an Emergency Medical Technician. Junior was a Tool and Die Maker and worked for 30 years at Bertsch & Company in Cambridge City and retired from Ready Machine- Tool & Die in Connersville after 15 years of service. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, the former Mabel Pickett. They were married in Milton on December 21, 1956. 2 children- Rodney D. (Paulette Fuller) Longnecker of Tampa, Florida; Denise J. (Marion) DeLucio of Milton; 5 grandchildren- Dustin Reece, Kristin N. (Ron) Maiden, Zachary D. Longnecker, Brandi R. (Phil) Willman and Cody L. DeLucio; 7 great grandchildren; 8 siblings- Robert E. (Helen) Longnecker of Cambridge City, William J. (Janice) Longnecker of Milton, Nancy F. Longnecker of Cambridge City, James Richard Longnecker of Cambridge City, Linda L. (Rick) Cline of Dublin, Christal Fern Henderson of Sacramento, California, John A. (Lisa) Longnecker of Cambridge City and Thomas D. (Donna) Longnecker of Cambridge City; several nieces and nephews. Red was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Longnecker on October 2, 1976; mother, Ruby Fern Rudisell Longnecker on June 20, 2000 and sister- Cassie Eileen Lynch on October 18, 2008. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday August 7, 2009 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Pastor Joseph Kortz will officiate. Burial will follow at the South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin . Military Burial Honors will be provided by the Lawrence H. Bertsch American Legion Post 169 of Cambridge City. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. on Thursday August 6 at the funeral home
