SHIRLEY- Edith C. Riggs, 92, passed away on Tuesday February 22, 2011 at the Henry County Hospital in New Castle, Indiana. A daughter of the late Robert Henderson and Minnie Lee (Burris) Coomer, Edith was born in Union Ridge-Cedar Crest, Kentucky on April 10, 1918. Edith was a loving mother and grandmother and has lived most of her life in the Shirley community. She attended the Shirley Friends Church and retired from Delco-Remy in Anderson. Survivors include 3 daughters- Mavis Rhea (Larry) Allen of Greenfield, Velma Jean (Gary) Roy of Knightstown and Watina Ruth Keller of Shirley; 11 grandchildren- Mack (Joene) Agee, James B. (Linda) Agee, Kenneth C. Agee, Tracy D. Agee, Tammy Spence, Brian Roy, Lori (Kerry) True, Michael and Brent Keller, Christina Masters and Amber (Josh) Thomas; several grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews,including 2 special nieces- Patricia Coomer and Senita Haynes. Edith was preceded in death by her 1st husband- James Raymond McGowan, January 1952, 2nd husband Kenneth P. Riggs, 1964; son- George Edgar McGowan; 2 daughters- Norma June McGowan and Brenda Lee McGowan; 2 sisters- Louise Redmon and Elsie King; 3 brothers- Albert , Ernest and Robert Coomer. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday February 25, 2011 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Shirley. Jim Jackson of the Shirley Friends Church will officiate. Burial will follow at the Harlan Cemetery north of Wilkinson. Visitation will be today, February 24, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
