STRAUGHN- Edgar Purvis, 81, passed away on Wednesday May 27, 2009 at the Waters of New Castle. Ed was born in Morehead, Kentucky on April 7, 1928. He had lived most of his life in the Straughn and New Lisbon area before moving to New Castle in 1995. He was a minister and had been a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in New Castle since 1957. Ed retired from the Henry County Highway Department where he was an Equipment Operator. He had also been a truck driver for Peet's Feeds and several area farmers. He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Sons, whom he wed on May 9, 1996. 2 stepdaughters- Ruth Ann Davidson and Marsha Bennett both of Straughn; 9 step grandchildren; 12 step great grandchildren; 5 step great great grandchildren; 1 brother- Claude Earl (Betty) Purvis of New Castle; 3 nephews and 1 niece. Ed was preceded in death by his father, Charlie E. Purvis on June 11, 1991; mother, Maude L. Poston Purvis on September 11, 2001; 1st wife of 39 years, Mary Flossie (Stone) Mills Purvis on September 21, 1993; stepson, Willie Joe Mills on June 19, 1994; brother, Donnie Ray Purvis Visitation will be from 10 a.m. till the time of services at 11 a.m. on Saturday May 30, 2009 at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church, 131 S. 26th Street in New Castle. Rev. David Cole will officiate. Burial will follow at the New Lisbon Cemetery in New Lisbon.
