LEWISVILLE- Dewey R. Fairchild, 79, passed away on Saturday morning November 10, 2012 at the Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle, Indiana. A son of the late Fount and Minnie (Slagle) Fairchild, Dewey was born in Cooper (Wayne County), Kentucky on October 5, 1933. Dewey has lived most of his life in the Lewisville community and retired from Allison's Detroit Diesel- Indianapolis in 1991 after 30 years of service. Dewey worked as a truck driver and won several National Professional Truck Driving Rodeo Championships in the 1980's. After his retirement he started D & S Mowing Service which included being groundskeeper of the Lewisville Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, the former Martha R. Gauker. They were married in Hagerstown on April 25, 1953. 1 daughter, Becky (Bill) Neal of Lewisville; 1 daughter in-law Sandi Fairchild of New Castle; 6 grandchildren, Missy (Hector) Mercedes, Nathan Neal, Ryan (fiancée Megan Thompson) Fairchild, Ashley Cornelius, Levi Fairchild and Lacee (Jason Chenevert) Fairchild; 6 great grandchildren, Brayden, Kiley and Mason Fairchild, Bryant and Kenley Cornelius, Jordan Thorpe; 3 brothers, Dave, Wallace and Herschel Fairchild; 1 sister, Ollie Lee; nieces and nephews. Dewey was preceded in death by 2 sons, David Allen on January 11, 1988 and Kenneth Ray on February 2, 2005; 9 siblings. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday November 16, 2012 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville. Burial will follow at the Lewisville Cemetery.
