Obituary

DUBLIN – Delbert Gene Sherwood, 97, of Dublin, passed away Monday evening, July 6th, 2026, at Stonebrooke Rehab Facility in New Castle after a short illness.

Delbert was born in Fayette County, Indiana to the late Henry and Hazel (McMichael) Sherwood on January 27, 1929. He grew up in a farming community and farmed for several local farmers, as well as his own farm for years. Delbert went to work at Beldon Corporation in 1969, where he retired in 1994 after 25 years of service.

He loved playing golf and spent most of his retirement working part time at Winding Branch Golf Course in Pershing, along with playing in several leagues. He enjoyed working outside and raising his garden.

Delbert is survived by his 8 children; Bonnie (Noel) Adams of Liberty, Michael “Mick” (Becky) Sherwood of Plainfield, James Sherwood of Liberty, Rick (Sandy) Sherwood, Joe Sherwood, Ben (Nancy) Sherwood, all of of Cambridge City, Amy (Steve) Bunker of Centerville, Matt (Stephanie) of Richmond, 25 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and 5 generations of great-great grandchildren; 1 brother, Charles “PeeWee” (Carolyn) Sherwood of Cambridge City; sisters-in-law, Viola and Nancy Sherwood, both of Cambridge City.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Lois May Sherwood, who passed away on May 6th, 2012; a grandson, Raymond Smith, his parents, sisters Irene Richardson, Evelyn Brandon, Juanita Daugherty, Eulala Halterman; brothers, Cliff, George, Henry Jr., Kenneth, and Frank, and Lowell Sherwood.

Visitation for Delbert will be held on Friday July 10th, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 1:00 p.m. at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Following the funeral service, Delbert will be laid to rest in Jacksonburg Cemetery beside his wife, Lois May.
