January 24, 1931 – June 12, 2013
(Ralph) David Jenkins, loving husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully while surrounded by family at the home of his son in Charleston, South Carolina on June 12, 2013. David graduated from Milton High School in 1950. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 - 1953. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Combat Service Medal for action in Korea. David retired from MEG and spent 10 years volunteering at Red Bird Mission in southeastern Kentucky. He was a member of Cambridge City First United Methodist Church and the Richmond area Emmaus community. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Shirley Briar Jenkins; sons David Allen (Mary) Jenkins, Kent (Deborah) Jenkins; daughters Vivian Ashmawi, Melissa (Mike) Durham, Sherri (Todd) Alexander; grandchildren Amanda (Hugh) Welch, Tom (Jessica) Cokins, Jessica (Dean) Lancaster, Laura and Holly Jenkins, Jason (Emma) Ashmawi, Adam (Randi) Durham, Steven and Logan Durham, Kelly (Lee) Jenkins-Woodrum, Shannon, Kyle, Shane, Karrah, and Samantha Jenkins, Matt Alexander, Kristen (Drew) Moorehead; great grandchildren Hadley and Miller Welch, Tommy Cokins, Ayden Durham, Nate Alexander, Olivia Moorehead; brothers Donald (Janet) Jenkins Stanley (Patty) Jenkins; sisters Betty Jenkins, Nancy (Phillip) Hammond; many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and loving friends. David was preceded in death by a son, Barry; parents Ralph and Trecy Jenkins; a brother Robert Jenkins. Visitation will be Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 10am until the time of Celebration of Life Service at 1pm at Marshall and Erlewein Funeral Home, 1993 Cumberland Street, Dublin, Indiana 47335. Burial will follow at the South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin. Memorial contributions can be made to Cambridge City United Methodist Church, Communities in Schools of Wayne County, or Red Bird Mission School.
