DUBLIN- Darlene Darter, 96, of Dublin, passed away peacefully on Thursday August 22, 2013 after a short illness. She was born on September 18, 1916 in Iowa, a daughter of the late Harry and Elsie (Hoffman) Petersohn who came to America from Germany. Darlene married "Boots" Darter and moved to Indiana in 1934. In 1937, she and her husband founded Hillside Nurseries. Darlene has lived in the same home in Dublin for 76 years. After retirement in 1971, she and her husband traveled extensively to Canada, Nova Scotia and most states including Alaska. They spent their winters in Florida and Texas. Darlene was a life member of the Dublin Community Club, American Legion Auxiliary where she was the historian and was active in the Raleigh Community Club. She was one of the founders of the Circle R Riding Club and a member of the Eastern Indiana Horseman's Association. Darlene was also a member of the Milton Christian Church. Survuvors include 4 children, Donn, Pete, Soozi and Mickey all from the Cambridge City area; a foster son Jack Whalen of Houston, TX; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great -great grandchildren. Darlene was preceded in death by her husband "Boots" Darter on September 2, 1998; 3 sisters; 1 brother. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m. on Monday August 26, 2013 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Rev. Tom Cici of the Milton Christian Church will officiate. Burial will follow at the South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin.
