NEW CASTLE - Daniel B. Shafer, 90, of New Castle passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle, Indiana. Daniel was born on March 22, 1925 in Henry County, Indiana to Horace and Edith (Barrett) Shafer and was a 1943 graduate of the New Lisbon High School. Daniel served his country in the United States Army during WWII. In January of 1946 he married the former Joan Fowley and together they farmed in the New Lisbon area for many years. Daniel was a school bus driver for the South Henry County School Corporation for 27 years and was a member of the New Lisbon Christian Church and the New Lisbon Lions Club. Daniel and Joan retired to Florida for several years and returned to the Cambridge City area prior to moving to New Castle. Avid song evangelists, they traveled as missionaries throughout the midwest and abroad. Survivors include his children, Joy Ann (David) Lowder of Straughn, Gary (Donna Kay) Shafer of Cambridge City; grandchildren, Brooke Miller, Matt & Nathan Shafer, Brandon Lowder; twelve great-grandchildren; siblings, Marjorie Gauker of Hagerstown, Dean Shafer of Cambridge City, Denise Russell of Muncie. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan Shafer on June 14, 2012; infant son, Kent Alan Shafer; grandson, Kent Allen Miller; siblings, Naomi Baker, Merle Shafer, Wayne Shafer, Freida Holaday. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the celebration of Daniel's life at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the New Lisbon Christian Church, 6477 E County Road 500 S, New Lisbon, Indiana 47366 with Rev. Mark Lomison officiating. Burial with military honors will take place at the convenience of the family at the New Lisbon Cemetery.
