LEWISVILLE- Clara Mae (Voyles) Hedrick passed away on Thursday evening December 31, 2009 at the Henry County Hospital in New Castle, Indiana. Clara Mae was born in Washington County near Organ Springs, Indiana on February 18, 1916, the daughter of Bessie Ellis and Harry M. Voyles of Salem. She graduated in 1934 from Salem High School and in 1937 from Central Normal College in Danville, Indiana with a teaching license in Elementary and Primary Education. She was married in 1940 to Robert Allen Hedrick of Lewisville. Her teaching career spanned 27 ½ years in Indiana elementary classrooms in Martinsburg, Georgetown, Raleigh, Straughn, Mt. Summit, Lewisville and Tri. She belonged to the Two O'clock Club, Lewisville Methodist Church, Major Hugh Dinwiddie Chapter of the DAR, and a fifty year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Past Matrons, Retired Teachers of Indiana, and the Lewisville Home Economics. After moving from Lewisville in 1995, she lived at Raintree Square Apartments and this past year and a half at The Waters of New Castle. She said that she had many people who loved her which made her life good. Some of those, who preceded her in death, were her husband, Robert A. Hedrick on March 9, 1979; a sister, Mildred Brown; three brothers, Wilson, Louie and Roger Leon Voyles; her five Hedrick brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary, Russell and Eulalia, Theo and Marjorie, Roy and Mahala Ball, and Jesse and Pearl; all have passed along with one granddaughter, Liza Miller. She has two surviving children: Paul Allen Hedrick (wife Laura) of Benton, Kentucky and Elizabeth Anne Wesley (husband Rex) of New Castle, five granddaughters; Darcy (husband William) Hoffmann, Amy (husband Kevin) Sterrett, Jennifer (husband Tom) Weaver, Stacy (husband Walter) Desrosier, and Jodi (husband Tim) Hall; 11 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. till the time of services at 2:30 p.m. (today) on January 4, 2010 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville. Rev. Arthur Whitaker will officiate. Burial will follow at the Lewisville Cemetery.
