Charlena Mae
(Pickett) Sands
March 21, 1934 – January 30, 2024
CAMBRIDGE CITY- Charlena Mae Sands, 89, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, January 30th, 2024, at Ambassador Healthcare in Centerville, Indiana. One of ten children born to the late Homer Orlando and Mae Louise (Hughes) Pickett, Charlena was born in Greensburg, Indiana on March 21, 1934. Charlena was raised in Milton and graduated from Milton High School. She loved living in the small town and sharing stories of her time skating at the local skating rink. She married the love of her life, Bob Sands, in Pershing on December 14th, 1956, and they made their home in the Cambridge City community. Charlena retired in 2018 after more than thirty years of service as a clerk for Superior Court III at the Wayne County Courthouse. She was a big fan of I.U. sports and Colt's football. Charlena was an avid BINGO player and, in her leisure, enjoyed traveling and trips to Las Vegas.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-seven years, Bob; two daughters, Karan (Sean) McCoy and Kim (Tony) Stewart; six grandchildren, Michael (Melissa) McCord, Kyle (Logan) McCord, Kyle (Chloe) McCoy, Kinzie Stewart, AJ (Brandi) Stewart and Kassidy (Evan) Stewart; seventeen great grandchildren; two siblings, Mabel Longnecker and Marion (Gloria) Pickett; nieces and nephews.
Charlena was preceded in death by a grandson, Broc Robert-Alan Jacobs on May 13th, 2017; 7 siblings, Walter "Bud", Paul, Robert "Bobby" and Richard Pickett, Pauline Cochran, Carol Hogan and seven-year-old, Jackie Pickett.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday February 6th, 2024, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Raymond Siggers will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. on Monday February 5th, 2024.
