Obituary

Carroll Lee Peckinpaugh, 87, of New Castle, Indiana, passed away at his home at 11:45 a.m. on October 7, 2026, surrounded by his family and so much love. A faithful, kind, gentle and humble man, he spent his life building things, fixing things, helping people and quietly making the world around him a little better. He was born June 24, 1939, in New Castle, Indiana, to Robert J. and Marjorie A. Peckinpaugh. He graduated from Straughn High School in 1957. He became a member of the LDS church in 1966 where he met the love of his life, Edith Pearl Dale. They were married July 23, 1970, in their home in Cambridge City. Carroll worked for 33 years at Fowler Automatic, servicing and repairing vending machines and finished his career as a facility maintenance manager for the LDS Church. He took great pride in restoring a 1963 Corvair with his family, a car that carried him and Edith to their 50th anniversary celebration and enjoyed participating and attending local car shows.

He is survived by his children, Jim (Susan) Peckinpaugh, Donna Stout, Mary (Mel) Campbell, Tom Peckinpaugh, Malinda (Tim) Anderson, Shelly (Scott) Brumfiel, Jennifer (Pat) Isom, Dale (Karen) Peckinpaugh, Crystal (Adam) Bradley and Judy Post; 41 grandchildren; more than 45 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Alice Howell, Roger (Becky) Peckinpaugh and Barbie Dozier.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Pearl Peckinpaugh, on October 3, 2023; his parents, Robert J. and Marjorie A. (Ellson) Peckinpaugh; his brother, Robert W. Peckinpaugh; his son, Scott Saunders, his son-in-law, David M. Stout; his grandson, David P. Stout; his great-grandchildren, Maleigha M. Jackson and Leann N. Stolle-Jackson; and his brothers-in-law, Vince Howell and Leon Dozier.

He taught us how to stand up tall, to rise with courage when we fall. His steady hands and faithful way, still guide the choices that we make. He showed his love through all he did, in sacrifices often hid. He carried burdens without praise and cared for us in quiet ways. Though we must walk without him here, his voice within us still feels near. The lessons planted through the years will lead us through our grief and tears. His laughter echoes in each room, a light that sorrow cannot consume. The stories that we proudly share, remind us he is always there. So rest now, Dad, your journey’s through, yet part of us still walks with you. For every strength our hearts may find, is part of what you left behind.

Visitation for Carroll Tuesday, October 13, 2026, 4 to 7 p.m. at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mooreland Cemetery.
