Obituary

STRAUGHN- Carolyn Colvin, 70, of Straughn, passed away on Wednesday evening November 16, 2011 at the Ball Hospital in Muncie, Indiana. The daughter of the late Robert Lee and Mamie A. (Cate) Young, Carolyn was born in Cambridge City, Indiana on May 19, 1941. She grew up in the Western Wayne community and graduated from the Lincoln High School with the class of 1960. Carolyn earned a Masters Degree in Special Education and retired from the South Henry School Corporation, Tri High School, where she taught children with learning disabilities. She was also active as the speech team coach, academic team coach and with play performances. Carolyn was a member of the Dublin Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church and served as a church board member and Sunday School Superintendent. She was a member of the Henry County Optimist Club, Women of Worth Club and volunteered at the New Castle Correctional Facility and was a past Girl Scout Leader. Carolyn was known as Mother or Grandma to all who knew her. Survivors include her husband Larry A. Colvin. They were married in Pershing, Indiana on November 14, 1964; 3 children, William "Bill" Colvin, Jeannette Thurman and JerriAnn Colvin all of Straughn; 5 grandchildren; 1 sister, Mary Keller of Indianapolis; 2 brothers, Richard Young of Connersville and Mike Young of Muncie. Carolyn was preceded in death by 3 siblings, Felton Young, Charlie Young, Barbara Razor and a close friend Judy Buck. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday November 20, 2011 and from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Monday November 21 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Graveside services will follow at the South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin. Rev. Thomas Sproles will officiate.
