CAMBRIDGE CITY - Robert L. "Bob" Smith, 74, passed away Friday evening July 20, 2018 at the home of his daughter in Connersville. A son of the late Chester and Esther (Locke) Smith, Bob was born in New Castle, Indiana on October 11, 1943. Bob was raised in the Milton community and graduated from Milton High School with the class of 1961. While in high school Bob played basketball, baseball, track and was a member of the Drama Club, Future Farmers of America and 4-H. He then attended Ball State University for 2 years. While in college he raced drag cars at the Liberty race track. Bob retired in 1986 from Ingersoll Steel in New Castle where he worked as a metallurgist. In his leisure, Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and continued to find enjoyment from watching drag racing and basketball games.

Survivors include 2 daughters, ReGina (Vance) Raham of Georgia and Tonya Pollard of Connersville; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 3 step daughters, Mary Ann (Junior) Payne, Lisa (Brad) Lewellen and Rhonda (Tom) Ritter; 12 step grandchildren; 15 step great grandchildren and 1 step great-great grandchild; several siblings.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Marie (Skates) Smith on January 4, 2016. They were married on October 16, 1970.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday July 26, 2018 at Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City. Pastor Frank Oakman will officiate.
