IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty Lou
Goggin
May 22, 1935 – October 15, 2025
NEW LISBON - Betty Lou (Stringer) Goggin, 90, a lifelong resident of the New Lisbon area, passed away on October 15, 2025.
Betty was born May 22, 1935 and graduated from New Lisbon High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Millard Goggin, on May 9, 1953, a union that lasted 72 years. After all their children were in school, she attended Ball State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1975 and a Master of Arts in 1980, both in Special Education. She taught in Fayette County Schools for 16 years.
Her love of education extended to teaching the Bible. She treasured God's Word and was a devoted student of the Bible. She had a passion to share the good news of Jesus Christ through teaching and leading women's Bible study groups. She was an active member of New Lisbon Christian Church for many years.
She loved spending time with family, especially the grandkids and great-grandkids. Her love was shared with all she met, and she regularly extended generosity, encouragement, and hospitality to those who crossed her path.
Betty is survived by her husband, Millard Goggin, and children John (Kate Freed) Goggin, Mark (Annette) Goggin, Belinda (Jeff) Scholl, Tim (Catherine) Goggin and David (Jenny) Goggin, as well as 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 6 nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Mary Jo Stringer. She was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Bertha (Barlow) Stringer, sister Alma (Stringer) Polk, brothers Wayne Stringer and Donald Stringer, and by infant great-grandson Samuel Goggin.
The family would like to thank the staff of Glen Oaks Health Campus and Henry Community Health Hospice for their attentive care in her last days.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of funeral services at noon on Tuesday October 21, 2025 at New Lisbon Christian Church. Pastor Jonathan Willmore will officiate. Burial will follow at New Lisbon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Lisbon Christian Church.
