Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Barnhizer Davis "Beth", 58, of Philomath, Indiana passed away at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on January 8, 2013 at 8:10 pm following complications during surgery and a lengthy illness. Beth was born in Connersville, IN on June 12, 1954 to William V. and Mary F. Keller Barnhizer. Her favorite memories of her childhood included spending time with her grandparents and playing with her siblings: Jim, Sue, and Becca. Beth was more than a daughter and sister. She was a much cherished friend, who always offered a welcoming smile, warm shoulder to lean on, and was always ready with a cup of coffee. Her parents said this about Beth: "She was our best friend." She graduated from Union County High School in Liberty, Indiana in 1973. Beth married Gary O. Davis on October 20, 1979 and spent 33 special years together. Gary, called Gabby by many, had been impressed by his wife, lifting his hands, "She was my life, my best friend, my love and my soul mate; someone I couldn't wait to get home and see every day. How can I put what she was to me in words, there aren't enough." Beth and Gabby worked side by side in their family woodshop, creating heirlooms for their family and friends to cherish for years to come. Her artistic talents included woodworking, egg-carving, painting, crafts as well as playing the guitar and hammer dulcimer. Many of her creations remain as part of her legacy. She had one son and four daughters: Tony, Melissa, Randi, Gabrielle and Amber. Tony shares "I'm so incredibly thankful for every moment I got to spend with her. I felt her love as soon as we met and still do". Melissa recalled how she just "loved the coffee" while Randi had agreed that a couple cups of coffee and "she was ready for the world" both remembering she was not a morning person. Gabrielle smiled thinking of her mother, "She was my compass, my North Star and that's how I'll remember her." Amber Sue stood up placing her hands on her mother's dining table sharing that her mother "was always a shooting star in the darkest of nights." She is survived by her husband, Gary O. Davis of Philomath; her son, Tony Nicoletta of Grove City, OH; her daughters: Melissa (Andy) Hiatt Rodefer of Eldorado, OH, Randi Hiatt James of Rushville, Gabrielle Davis of Dracut, MA, and Amber (Brad) Davis Wise of Greenwood; her grandchildren: Vinton and Lane James, Cameron and Dawson Nicoletta, Abigail Rodefer, Canyon and Celeste Pence and William Poublon; her parents William and Mary Barnhizer of Philomath; and her siblings: Jim (Karla) Barnhizer of Liberty, Sue (Tracey) Barnhizer Anderson of South Bend and Becca (Bill) Barnhizer Blue of Centerville. She was loved by many nieces and nephews. In honoring her wishes, services were held on January 12, 2013 at 2:00 pm with her immediate family present. Her care was entrusted to Marshall and Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin Indiana. She will be buried at Doddridge Chapel, Centerville, IN; a place that she described as "the focal point of many special memories" during her life. Beth was known for kindness and in lieu of flowers the family is asking that her life be honored by doing something kind and paying it forward with her in mind.
