Obituary

PERSHING - Berta "Betty" Walters, 92, of Pershing passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Reid Hospital in Richmond. She was born in Grob-mehlra, Germany on September 19, 1920 to Emil Albert and Minna Elise Fricke. Following World War II, during the occupation of Germany, Betty met and fell in love with a young American soldier, William K. Walters. Following his discharge from the United States Army, William returned to Germany where he and Betty were married on September 6, 1952. Together at last, they returned to America on August 14, 1953 following a yearlong paperwork procedure. They had lived in Dublin and Cambridge City communities before moving to Pershing in 1958. After 44 years of marriage, William passed away on November 13, 1996. Betty worked as a shipping clerk for PRC Recording in Richmond before her retirement and in her leisure time enjoyed gardening and knitting. She was a member of the Milton Christian Church. Survivors include two sons, James H. Walters of Fort Wayne, William L. Walters of Cambridge City; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Her parents, husband, daughter, and several brothers and sisters preceded Betty in death. Funeral services will commence at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until the time of services. Rev. Tom Cici of Milton Christian Church will officiate. Following the services, burial will take place at South Lawn Cemetery, Dublin. Contributions in memory of Betty may be made to Milton Christian Church, PO Box 534, Milton, Indiana 47357.
