Obituary

PERSHING- Andy L. "Pete" Pitcher, 88, passed away on Friday afternoon March 5, 2010 at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. He had been in failing health since October of 2009. A son of the late John and Anna (Goodwin) Pitcher, Pete was born in Richmond, Indiana on December 23, 1921. He grew up in the Cambridge City area and had lived in Centerville following World War II before moving to Pershing in 1975. Pete was a member of the United States Army and served his country with honor during World War II and was always amazed by the Panama Canal which he passed through on his way to the Pacific Theater. He worked for Sweet's Construction and was owner / operator of Pitcher Auto Parts in Pershing from 1964 until his retirement in 1989. Following retirement he kept busy doing maintenance work, and enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids and being outdoors. He was a member of the Lawrence H. Bertsch American Legion Post 169 of Cambridge City. Survivors include 3 children, Robert "Bob" (Barbara) Pitcher and Elizabeth Lakes both of Cambridge City and Sandra Hobbs of Centerville; 9 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren. Pete was preceded in death by his wife, the former Lois M. Grim on August 26, 1986. They were married in Cambridge City on October 10, 1945.; 1 brother, Ralph Pitcher; 2 sisters, Vinnie Elizabeth Pitcher and Ida Coleman. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday March 9, 2010 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Zion's Lutheran Cemetery in Pershing. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. on Monday March 8 at the funeral home.
