CAMBRIDGE CITY- Aleen Johnson, 88, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday morning September 20, 2012 from Connersville, Indiana. Aleen has lived with her daughter Shirley for over 10 years before moving to Heritage House of Connersville in March. A daughter of the late S.C. and Florence (Hobbs) Marcum, Mary Aleen was born on January 25, 1924 in Fayette County, Indiana near Everton. She attended school in Connersville and Brookville. She married William Herbert Johnson Sr. on December 19, 1941 in Blooming Grove and moved to Brownsville where they farmed until 1954. They then moved to Milton and raised their family. Aleen was a stay at home mom, and in May of 1963 she and her husband became foster parents for the next 20 years. Together they cared for 47 foster children from Wayne, Fayette and Franklin counties. On four occassions they were chosen Foster Parents of the Year. Aleen and her husband loved to travel, purchased a motor home and enjoyed spending the winters in the south and visiting their children. She said her days of traveling were over after her husband's death on September 20, 1991. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, birthday parties and holidays. Aleen had been a member of the Connersville Calvary Baptist Church since 1952. Survivors include 3 daughters, Shirley Caudill of Cambridge City, Diana Roberts and Debbie Warren both of Liberty; 2 daughter in-laws, Kathy Johnson of Pershing and Debbie (James) Johnson-Tsoodle of Alburquerque, NM; 5 sons, Darrell (Cheri) Johnson of Bakersfield, CA, Stan (Melanie) Johnson of Port Richey, FL, Jay Chaney of Indianapolis, Gary (Martha) Reidenbach of Brenam, GA, and Billy Reidenbach of Richmond; 29 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; 1 sister, Kathryn Van Dalsen of Brookville; sister in-law Florine Johnson of Cincinnati, OH; brother in-law Harry Johnson of Ft. Walden Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews. Aleen was also preceded in death by 2 sons, DeWayne Johnson and William Herbert "Herbie" Johnson Jr.; infant grandson William Herbert Johnson III; 3 brothers, Hoy and O.B. Marcum and Bill Pentz. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday September 24, 2012 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Reverends Herman Chaney and James Tsoodle will offciate. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday September 23.
