Dorothy Moistner Obituary

CAMBRIDGE CITY– Dorothy Leah Moistner, 102, passed away peacefully at her home of over 50 years on Tuesday evening, June 6 , 2018. One of eleven children, Dorothy was born in Muncie, Indiana on May 6, 1916 to the late John H. and Hazel Venorah (Wheatley) Thom. Dorothy graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1934 where she played basketball and the alto saxophone in the school band. Dorothy was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She always looked forward to family gatherings. She had worked at the Winchester Glove Factory and was an Avon Representative for 30 years, receiving several Miss Albi awards during that time. A deeply religious woman, Dorothy was a member of the Dublin Gospel Mission Church where she was Sunday School Secretary. She had also been Sunday School Superintendent for the Dublin Wesleyan Methodist Church and Sunday School Teacher at both churches. In her leisure, Dorothy enjoyed reading and watching television.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Willard Moistner on August 17, 1974: son, Philip K. Moistner on March 8, 2018; granddaughter, April A. Riggle on May 12, 2009; great grandchildren, Lauren Michelle Riggle on February 9, 1990 and Eric Garst on August 13, 2015; 10 siblings, Alta, Donna, Edwin, Johnny, Charles, Paul and Merrill Thom, Ellen Salmons, Rachel Schockley and Martha Taylor.

Survivors include her 3 children, Melvin (Carolyn) Moistner and John (Janice) Moistner of Cambridge City, Beverly (Duane) Keiser of Hagerstown; 8 grandchildren, Mike, Mark, Keith, Scott and Todd Moistner, Tammy Garst, Matt and Brian Keiser; 19 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation for Dorothy will be held Sunday, June 10th from 2-6 p.m. at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. A funeral service to celebrate her life will take place at 10:30 on Monday, June 11th at the Dublin Gospel Mission Church. Burial will follow at the West Side Cemetery in Milton.
