CAMBRIDGE CITY- Ben J. Singer, 87, passed away on Sunday February 24, 2013 at Ambassador Health Care in Centerville, Indiana. A son of the late John and Anna (Daniels) Singer, Ben was born in St. Leon, (Dearborn County) Indiana on October 8, 1925. He moved to the Western Wayne community in the late 40’s where he was a lifelong farmer south of the Pershing and Milton area. He served his country in the Indiana National Guard and was a member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Cambridge City. Ben also belonged to the BASS Anglers Club and served on the Board of Directors of Farmers Grain Co.. Survivors include his 2nd wife, the former Helen (Staton) Meyer whom he married on October 11, 1997; 2 sons, Mike (Hui Yu) Singer of Wheaton, IL, Jim (Michele) Singer of Cambridge City; 3 daughters, Brenda (Tom) Munchel of Cambridge City, Susan (Jamie) Wesseler of Richmond and Cheryl (Jeff) Perry of Columbia City; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 3 stepdaughters, Sue Meyer of Reno, NV, Teresa (Wayne) Grimes and Janet (fiancee’ Clyde Creech) Carpenter all of Cambridge City; step daughter inlaw, Lucretia Meyer of Pershing; 16 step grandchildren ; 45 step great grandchildren. Ben was preceded in death by his first wife of 46 years, Jacquelyn Rose “Jackie” (Miller) Singer on April 4, 1996 They were married in the St. Elizabeth Church on February 3, 1950.; son Gary B. Singer on December 14, 1990; 7 siblings, Leo, Joseph, Mary, John and Wilbur Singer, Lena Shelton and Leona Schreck; step son, Gary Meyer on September 26, 2011 Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday March 1, 2013 at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church , 333 W. Maple Street- Cambridge City, IN 47327. Fr. Joseph Rautenberg will officiate. Burial to follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City. Rosary service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday February 28 with visitation to follow from 4-7 p.m. at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Western Wayne Food Pantry c/o Cambridge City Christian Church- 106 W. Church St., Cambridge City, IN 47327
